VALISES (Suitcases)

A site-specific dance project set for three outdoor highly trafficked downtown Miami sites.

VALISES (Suitcases) is a 10-minute site specific dance/installation work created by Rio de Janeiro, Brazil dancer/choreographer, Ana Vitória. VALISES is a site dance work created to bring attention to a powerful and universal emotion "doubt" as experienced when one packs to leave. It is the emotion which every immigrant deals with when leaving their country for a new land or when returning to Miami after a visit home. Ana will set VALISES on 3 New World School of the Arts Dance Majors. After a two-week rehearsal period at their downtown New World School of the Arts dance studios the project will take place on the streets in downtown Miami.

VALISES will take place daily, during the workweek, for one week, November 9-13, 1998, at 4:45 & 5:15 PM. The 10-minute work will happen simultaneously at three sites:

Beside the Claes Oldenburg sculpture

Outside in front of the Carol Brown sculpture beside at Clark Center

The Government Center Station, 2nd level
