QUASAR DANCE COMPANY

Quasar, a dazzling, athletic, sophisticated dance company, known for their biting irreverence and stunning wit, a big-league company from little known Goiania, Brazil presents their new work

Choreography for Listening, Brazilian rhythms—"repentes", "maracatu", "frevo", "coco"—from the streets of Brazil act as the conducting wire for this powerful new work. This company wowed Miami audiences when they were here two years ago for Inroads. The quality of the achievements of Quasar Dance Company is proof that it is also possible to find fresh, cutting-edge work outside the major artistic centre such as Rio de Janeiro or São Paulo. Founded in 1988, in Goiânia (capital of the State of Goiás, in mid-western Brazil), this company has won itself a name thanks to the outstanding talents of its dancers and its resident choreographer, Henrique Rodovalho. "… a Brazil of unequalled wealth and quality, placed through sounds and music which we sometime forget still exists… contemporary dance, stylized and urban……Choreography for Listening - where the eye traces one reality and the ear another."

Co-presented with Centro Cultural Brasil/USA.

Touring support from Southern Arts Federation and State of Florida, Division of Cultural Affairs.
