Lia Rodrigues

This year, Lia Rodrigues brings to us her critically-acclaimed work MA. "The dramatic universe of this work unfolds through different movements of the everyday life of mothers and their never ending tasks: babies, diapers, buckets, basins. . . endlessly.

"The word mother has, apparently one one origin.

"In Latin Mother is mater, in Greek meter, in German mutter, in French mère, in Portuguese mãe, in sanskrit ma or mata.

"Everything probably began with one of the fundamental sounds uttered by the species: the sound of a baby yearning for a mother’s breast."

MA will be danced by Denise Thereza Stutz, Marcela Levi, Micheline Torres and Cláudia Muller

"In MA Lia Rodrigues translates the sufferings and joy of motherhood, in a sophisticated expressionistic style...a powerful vision, dramatic, always very pure..." -- Figaro/France/1996:
