FALLING UP with

"True handicaps come only from the mind, the limits we place on ourselves. We can do anything, our community is everywhere."
Sidiki Conde

Sidiki Conde, his legs paralyzed since his early teens, overcame the prejudices against those with disabilities in his native Guinea and trained in the traditional music and dance of West Africa. He founded Tokounou in 1999 with the dual aims of showcasing African culture and the inclusion of those with disabilities at all times. In their electrifying shows, the singers, dancers, and musicians of Tokounou create a communal experience that embraces the audience, and people of all backgrounds and abilities.

The evening also includes a performance of FALLING UP, choreographed by Heather Maloney and danced by Maloney and John Beauregard.

These performance are part of danceAble, an innovative project that focuses on dance as a vital art form for persons with and without disabilities. Running from Monday, June 24 through Friday, June 29 at the Florida Dance Festival, danceAble includes a full line-up of performances, workshops and public events, held within the Florida Dance Festival. It is jointly produced by Florida Dance Association and Tigertail Productions.
